The debts for water in Chisinau are assessed at hundreds of thousands of lei and the cooperation with the housing stock managers is the only legal instrument for recovering them. The disconnection of the buildings from the water supply is an ultimate measure. Related statements were made by the director general of SA Apa-Canal Chisinau Constantin Becciev, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In the October 8 meeting of Chisinau City Hall officials, Constantin Becciev said that the company is unable to sue the indebted consumers as only the housing stock managers can do this. But they often do not have money to pay the state tax when they go to court and thus the supplier has to resort to disconnections.
Two apartment buildings are now still disconnected from the water supply. They are located on Bacioi Noi St and, respectively, on Sucevita St. The dwellers of the two blocks have large debts for water. “The consumers should realize that it’s not in the company’s interests to disconnect them, but they must honor their obligations,” said the executive director.
According to the company’s data, 74 buildings with a total debt of over 9 million lei have been disconnected from the water supply since September 9 until now. Their debts total more than 9 million lei. Over 660,000 lei of the total debt was paid after the disconnections.
In another development, Constantin Becciev said that most of the works to prepare the water supply system for winter have been completed. Employees of the company together with builders continue the works on Belinski St, where there is laid a renovated water pipe. The water supplier sent letters to all the consumers, informing them about the necessity of laying the water pipes deeper so as to prevent them from freezing as it happened last winter.
