If a trader sells defective products or applies misleading practices, citizens will no longer have to fight alone. Organizations representing their interests will be able to ask the court for clear and remedial measures – whether it is a refund of money, a replacement of products, or an end to illegal practices. The Cabinet approved a draft law on actions to protect consumers' collective interests, IPN reports.

There is currently a general collective action procedure, regulated by the Code of Civil Procedure, but an effective mechanism is needed to allow consumers to collectively defend themselves against traders who violate their rights, said the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization.

The voted bill stipulates practical mechanisms that will allow the problems to be solved. A key point is the introduction of remediation settlements, which enable the parties involved – consumers and traders – to reach agreements that resolve problems in a swift manner. In this way, there can be a healthy economy, based on mutual respect between consumers and traders, the quoted source noted.
