Consumer rights activists intend to stage a protest this September. Letters with calls to join in the protest were sent to a number of political parties of Moldova. The participants in the protest, which the organizers want to be a large-scale one, will demand to dismiss the Government and Parliament.
In a news conference at IPN, chairman of the national public association “Consumer Protection” Piotr Gutul said the situation in the country is difficult, while the ruling Democratic Party acts like a criminal group.
According to Gutul, the association receives multiple complaints from consumers, but it is unable to defend their rights in court because the judges ignore the provisions of the Law on Consumer Protection. The blame is borne by Parliament because this excluded the article about the refusal to implement the law from the Penal Code.
Piotr Gutul demands to reintroduce the penalty for this offense and to make it harsher by instituting punishment of up to eight months in jail and a fine of up to 50,000 lei.
“What is happening now is the result of lack of responsibility, which leads to chaos and non-punishment,” Dumitru Arion, a member of the Urban Ecologist Movement, said in the same news conference.
Alexandr Okishev, a member of the national public association “Consumer Protection”, called on the members and sympathizers of the opposition parties to be receptive and to take part in the protest.
