The national public association “Consumer Protection” calls on the voters to think very well before voting in the parliamentary elections of February 24. In a news conference at IPN, the Association’s president Piotr Guțul said he personally will not vote in the elections as there is no political party to which he would want to give his vote.
Piotr Guțul said in 2009, when Mihai Ghimpu served as acting President, the criminal responsibility for the non-observance of consumers’ rights was annulled. Later, there were adopted legislative amendments saying the persons can be represented in court only by a lawyer or a relative licensed in law. This way, the public associations were banned from representing consumers whose rights are violated in court.
“That’s why, dear consumers, think well what party to vote for on February 24. The association “Consumer Protection”, which has 15 years’ experience, reached the conclusion that neither the Ministry of the Interior, nor the Prosecutor General’s Office or the Government and Parliament react to the violation of the law on consumer protection. Parliament adopts laws that run counter to the international legislation on the protection of consumer rights,” stated Piotr Guțul.
He also mentioned the authorities’ intention to disband the associations in 2008, when the Government was led by Zinaida Grecheanyi. “Why should I vote this party that wanted to close our association? On August 9 last year, I was the target of an attempt. I look into your eyes and tell you sincerely that there is no party for which I would vote. During these years, we tried to reach an agreement with a number of political leaders so as to defend the rights of consumers, but we do not have such a party,” stated Piotr Guțul.
Association members Nicolae Miler said that following the current election campaign, he got the impression that it is a theater of the absurd. Prosecuted persons were admitted to the electoral competition. The current justice system cannot be trusted as a person who steals considerably can avoid punishment with the assistance of a good lawyer.
Association member Constantin Tabuncic said he is disappointed in the authorities as these have been unable to do him justice for seven years. He asked that his apartment should be disconnected from the heat supply as the specified temperature is not ensured. But his family continues to receive heat bills and accumulates debts.
The representatives of the association “Consumer Protection” called upon the consumers to call 022 637436 or 022556984 when their rights are violated.
