An inspector of the Consumer Protection Agency was arrested on passive and active corruption charges in the morning of May 26. This is suspected of collecting protection taxes from business entities specialized in the sale of oil products so that planned and surprise inspections weren’t performed at these, and for other services, IPN reports.
According to the National Anticorruption Center, the protection taxes could rise to €500. The sums charged for not carrying out inspections were several times higher. The denouncer, who is the superior of the inspector of the Consumer Protection Agency, said the man tried to corrupt him by offering him 220,000 lei, which was to be paid in installments of 55,000 lei.
On May 26, officers of the National Anticorruption Center and prosecutors carried out searches at the home, office and in the car of the inspector and at the office of a businessman. The two were arrested for 72 hours and are investigated for passive and active corruption.
