Consultative referendum can be declared valid

The consultative referendum that was held simultaneously with the parliamentary elections on February 24 can be declared valid as it involved over one third of those put on the voter rolls. 39% of the electors who voted in last Sunday’s elections took part in the referendum as well, IPN reports.

Central Election Commission president Alina Russu said about 40 vote records on the plebiscite results of the 2,141 presented by the polling stations are still being examined.

According to preliminary reports, over 730,000 voters answered “yes” the question “Are you for reducing the number of MPs from 101 to 61?”. More than 260,000 people voted “against”.

Also, over 790,000 people answered “yes” the question “Are you for recalling the MPs who do not appropriately fulfil their duties? “. More than 200,000 people voted “against”.

The final results will be presented after the voter records submitted to the CEC in the original are processed. The original records are to be filed by the electoral offices until February 26, 9pm.
