The only institution in Moldova that provides consular information to Moldovans wherever they are marks two years of activity. In the period, the Call Center of the Foreign Ministry’s Consular Affairs Department has received over 13,000 calls. The call to 080 090 990 from Moldova is free of charge. Call Center coordinator Diana Bordea has told Info-Prim Neo that most of the calls are given from such countries as Italy, Spain and Russia, but calls are also made from faraway countries like Nicaragua, Australia, Angola, and Morocco. “They ask for information about the validation of documents, trips, visas, difficult situations related to consular affairs and others,” said Diana Bordea. Most of the times the Moldovans who are abroad call to find out how to register a child born in a mixed marriage or how to renew expired documents. Foreigners married to Moldovans also make calls to the Center. They usually inquire about the package of documents needed to come to Moldova with the family. 60% of the callers are women, while the rest are men. The Call Center was founded on December 17, 2011 within the Building Institutional Capacity of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Project that is implemented by UNDP Moldova, with financial support from the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA).
