A winter sports palace may be erected in the municipality of Chisinau. Several plots on which to construct it were identified, but a decision is yet to be taken as to the correct placement of the palace from infrastructural viewpoint, IPN reports.
The prospects of building a winter sports palace were discussed in a meeting at the Chisinau City Hall, which involved a group of famous hockey players from Russia, world and European champions Alexandr Iakushev, Sergey Makarov, Alexandr Kojevnikov, and Alexei Kasatonov, who came to Moldova to take part in the international hockey tournament in memory of Vladimir Krutov.
“We must offer the Moldovan sportspeople the possibility of developing and working in their country, not abroad. There is a skating rink in Tiraspol, but it is hard to travel there daily,” said the president of the Hockey Club “Platina” Serghei Ciobanu.
The participants in the meeting said the Moldovan hockey team is very good, but the authorities should provide support in order to promote this sport in Moldova. The foreign athletes promised they will look for investors for building the winter sports palace.
According to deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu, the Chisinau Municipal Council will take a relevant decision by the end of November.
