The works to build the multifunctional sports complex of national importance Chisinau Arena were started in Stăuceni commune of Chisinau municipality. The complex that will include a polyvalent hall with the capacity of over 4,000 seats, a hall for training and holding small events, an Olympic swimming pool and other facilities is to be inaugurated in 12 months,  IPN reports.

Attending the event, Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu said he promoted the project to build a modern polyvalent complex because conditions for having professional athletes, large-scale international competitions and cultural events can be ensured only by an investment of such a size.

“The construction of the most important project of the kind in our country was kicked off. I’m confident that this complex will develop and, besides offering jobs and a benefit to the population, it will have an immediate positive impact on the country’s economy. It will bring tourists and revenues to the local and state budgets,” Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Kiril Gaburici was quoted in a press release of the Ministry of Economy as saying.

The architect of the Chisinau Arena project Kerem Yazgan presented in detail the characteristics of the complex. “The complex with the total area of 100,000 m2 will incorporate the polyvalent arena, an Aqua Park, a tennis club, recreational places and a parking lot with 1,000 places. The polyvalent stadium will be 17 753 m2 in area and could accommodate about 5,000 spectators, depending on the performed activities. The arena will host sport and recreational events, such as basketball, volleyball, mini-football, boxing and tennis matches, exhibitions, conferences and concerts,” stated the architect.

The Aqua Center will include a pool built according to the Olympic standards with ten lanes and stands with the capacity of 500 spectators, an Aqua Park and large fitness halls. There will also be seven open tennis courts for training and a central court with stands with the capacity of 520 places for holding international competitions.

The Chisinau Arena will have a recreational arena with a chessboard in the open air, a playground, a huge decorative swimming poll that will turn into a skating rink in winter and a multi-functional amphitheater that will host different recreational events.
