Construction materials on sale are mostly high-quality, report

Businesses tend to comply with the quality standard requirements for construction materials. This was the conclusion reached by the State Constructions Inspection (SCI) after reviewing over 100 companies, production facilities, construction sites, specialized shops and wholesale depots in Moldova. SCI head Vasile Radu told a press conference that cement and cinder blocks, bricks, plaster and cement-based mixes, terracotta, sand and gravel, sidewalk plates, acrylic paint, bituminous emulsions and other materials were examined. “If products don’t correspond with the quality standards, operations are suspended and cease and desist orders are issued. The files are then forwarded to courts which decide on penalties. (IPN: fines range from 1,200 to 8,000 lei). Overall, the number of detected violates isn’t great”, said Vasile Radu. Victor Punga, the head of the SCI's construction materials supervision division, said that the companies mostly fulfill the issued prescriptions, many of them opening and accrediting test-labs on the construction sites. Those in charge of quality control on construction sites are examined by the Professional and Technical Certification Commission, and if any irregularities are detected actions are taken to revoke their certificates of conformity.
