The Constitutional Court will extend its prerogative to perform constitutional control over laws adopted before the coming into force of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova. A draft law to this effect was given a final reading and adopted in the November 1 sitting of Parliament.

Under the current provisions, only the legal acts adopted after the coming into force of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, on August 27, 1994, are subject to constitutional control. After the adoption of the Constitution, there were stipulated no transition procedures for challenging the constitutionality of laws passed before1994 and the situation of the previous legislation remained unsolved.

The bill was adopted by the votes of 55 MPs of those attending.
