The Constitutional Court (CC) came together for a meeting at 14.00 to examine the PCRM’s application whereby it challenges the decisions made by the Parliament on August 28, including the appointment of the PL leader Mihai Ghimpu as Speaker by the vote of the members of the Alliance for European Integration (AEI), Info-Prim Neo reports. The Communist MPs claim that the AEI violated a number of articles from the Constitution of Moldova and the Parliament’s regulations at the first sitting on August 28. The Communists say the AEI did not have the right to continue the sitting and elect the Head of Parliament after the oldest MP Ivan Calin, who chaired the meeting, announced a break until September 4 so that the PCRM could form its parliamentary group. The members of the Alliance deny the accusations. Constitutional law experts consider that Ghimpu was elected Speaker legally. They formulated a series of recommendations that the CC should take into account when examining the Communists’ application.
