Constantin Shkendra was named vice governor of the National Bank of Moldova (NBM) and member of the Bank’s Executive Board for a seven-year period. A draft decision to this effect was adopted by Parliament on November 4, IPN reports.
In accordance with the law, the first vice governor and the vice governors are named by Parliament at the suggestion of the NBM governor.
Constantin Shkendra was suggested a year ago, but the Parliament’s legal commission for appointments and immunities opposed his nomination for vice governor. Later, the National Bank expressed its disagreement with the commission’s decision and asked for a review.
The candidate garnered 53 votes of PAS MPs. Nineteen BCS MPs voted against, while the rest abstained.
