The cases of infection with HIV/AIDS have decreased considerably globally. In the Republic of Moldova, the consequences of this pandemic have minimized too, secretary of state at the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection Constantin Rîmiș stated in a conference staged by Parliament on the occasion of World AIDS Day, IPN reports.
The official noted that the goal of the new national program to prevent and control HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases for 2021-2025 is to ensure universal access to the prevention, treatment and long-term and discrimination-free health care.
Vladimir Odnostalco, deputy head of the Parliament’s commission on social protection, health and family, said the year “COVID-19” exacerbated a number of internal problems, including HIV/AIDS. “Even if the number of cases has decreased, over 900 infections have been reported so far this year. This points to the necessity of paying greater attention and of continuing making concerted effort to prevent and control the pandemic, to ensure the proper treatment of the infected persons,” state the MP.
Deputy mayor of Chisinau Angela Cutasevici noted that for the first time this year, they worked out a municipal plan for preventing and controlling the infection. Also, budget funds were for the first time allocated for taking specific measures in the municipality of Chisinau.
Ruslan Poverga, director general of the public association “Positive Initiative”, said the situation in Moldova has improved due to the optimization of the legal framework, sensitization of public opinion, development of high-quality services and ensuring of financial coverage. The efforts should be contained.
Every year, on December 1, the world commemorates World AIDS Day. People around the world unite to show support for people living with and affected by HIV and to remember those who lost their lives to AIDS.
