Congress of Diaspora brought together Moldovans from 28 countries in Chisinau

Representatives of over 40 associations of the Moldovan diaspora from 28 countries are taking part in the sixth Congress of the Diaspora opened in Chisinau on September 1, IPN reports.

Attending the event, Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said the problems and challenges faced by the Moldovans from the diaspora are Moldova’s problems as well. The Government is making everything possible to increase the budget of the Bureau for Diaspora Relations so as to cope with the needs of the Moldovans abroad. There will be diversified the services intended for the diaspora in a move to motivate the Moldovans to return home.

Iurie Leanca called on the representatives of the diaspora associations to massively take part in the November 30 parliamentary elections so as to ensure the continuity of the European integration process in Moldova.

For their part, the representatives of the diaspora underlined that they went abroad to look for decent living conditions and will gladly return home if the state creates the same conditions as in the EU. They assured that they will support the country’s European course as only the integration into the European Union will ensure Moldova’s progress and security.

This year’s Congress of the Diaspora is held between September 1 and 3 and centers on the policies for the diaspora as well as on the impact of migration on the economic, social, academic and political processes in the country. The participants are discussing issues related to the social protection and healthcare, culture, the steps taken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration at foreign level, the reintegration policies, education, the diaspora vote, economy, investments and other subjects of interest.
