The leaders of the Pro European Coalition congratulated the people on the occasion of the ratification of the Association Agreement with the EU by Moldova’s Parliament. Before the hundreds of people who took part in a demonstration in support of the accord’s ratification, the leaders said they are proud that Moldova took this step, IPN reports.
The chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party Vlad Filat said the day the agreement was ratified will go down in history. “I feel proud of my country today. This feeling is due to all those who believed and all those who worked,” he stated, calling on the people to look at the future with confidence. “There is a long path to be covered, which is not at all easy. We must cope with the internal and external challenges and be united in the name of our children and the country. Congratulations, Republic of Moldova – the country with European past, present and future.”
The Democratic Party’s head Marian Lupu said the ratification of the Association Agreement changes strategically the country’s future. “It is a day that makes the political class, civil society and all the people together and separately more responsible. We will have to work hard. This accord will bring us many opportunities. It depends on us how we profit from these great possibilities,” he stated.
The leader of the Liberal Reformist Party Ion Hadarca said that Moldova’s Parliament fulfilled its historical duty. “It is a bright day for us. Our big dream came true. We will live freer and will have a safer future for our children and descendants,” he pointed out.
On July 2, the legislative body ratified the Association Agreement with the EU by 59 votes in favor and four against. The voting was nominal. A number of 38 lawmakers were absent from the hall when the voting took place.
