The local authorities’ decision to build a water treatment station in Suruceni village of Ialoveni district dissatisfies the residents. They created an initiative group and demand annulling the decision, or they will go to court. On July 26, villagers came together for a meeting, IPN reports.

Inga Fordea, the representative of the initiative group, has told IPN that the villagers accidentally found out about the decision to build a water treatment station in the settlement, not long ago, at a time when the local council adopted this decision in April.

The villagers said that under the decision, the station will be constructed 50 meters from the people’s homes and near a well from where they take water. “We are not against such a station, but it must be located far from our homes,” said Inga Fordea, adding the inhabitants have the right to take part in decision-making and to know how the 25 million lei allocated for building a sewerage system in the village is spent.

Another representative of the initiative group Lidia Renita accused the mayor of holding no dialogue. “Instead of inviting us to discussions, the mayor ordered the employees of the mayor’s office to collect signatures in favor of building the water treatment station in the agreed place, without explaining the essence of the project to the people. It doesn’t matter who collects more signatures for or against. The law must be obeyed,” she stated.

Contacted by IPN, the mayor of Suruceni Vasile Blanita said that this station is very important for the village. It will be built 300 meters from the houses. The decision was taken unanimously. Next week, the local council will hold an extraordinary meeting to discuss the issue.
