Conductor accused of trying to bribe policeman

A conductor of the international passenger train Chisinau-Moscow residing in Stefan-Voda town was arrested by the police on suspicion he tried to bribe a police officer, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the website of the Ministry of the Interior.
According to the Ministry, the suspect was caught in the act of offering the policeman $1,500 for returning the goods he brought earlier into the country illegally and for dropping charges against him.
Last weekend, the suspect aged 36 smuggled leather goods worth 240,000 lei into Moldova. If found guilty of active corruption, he could be fined 40,000 to 80,000 lei or imprisoned for up to 5 years.
