The border police officers will inform the citizens about the conditions of crossing the border with motor vehicles registered in in the Transnistrian region as part of an information campaign that will last until March 1, IPN reports.

The drivers of vehicles registered on the left side of the Nistru must have a vehicle registration certificate, a neutral-design license plate and a driver’s license issued by a state that is a party to the Convention on Road Traffic of 1968 and also the sticker with the “MD” letters placed at the back of the car, a motor insurance document valid for the country of destination and also written confirmation of the lease of the car if the name of the driver is not written in the vehicle registration certificate.

The Border Police noted that the motor vehicles with neutral-design license plates or with plates with registration numbers issued in the territorial-administrative units from the left side of the Nistru and in Bender municipality cannot travel on public roads if the drivers have the domicile in another locality than on the left side of the river or in Bender municipality.

After the information period is over, an institutional decision about the subsequent steps will be adopted at central level.

The new regulations that allowed crossing the state border of the Republic of Motiva with Transnistrian cars only if these had neutral-design license plates, accompanied by the distinct sign of the state “MD”, and that were to take effect on January 15 were annulled. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, such a decision was taken because there weren’t taken sufficient measures to inform the citizens from the Transnistrian region about the new regulations.
