Members of the peacekeeping contingent on behalf of Transnistria reinstalled two concrete blocks at the trilateral peacekeeping post set up near Vadul lui Voda, without the consent of the Joint Military Command, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In a communiqué, the Reintegration Office says the Transnistrian side took the step despite the previous agreements not to allow unilateral actions that would tense the situation in the Security Zone. The official Chisinau describes them as provocative actions.
The blocks were put back on January 10 at 05.30. The Transnistrian side blocked the access of the military observed to the place of the incident, who wanted to examine the circumstances of the case.
At the request of Moldova’s representative to the Joint Military Command, a meeting was held to elucidate the circumstances of the January 1 shooting incident. An extraordinary meeting was called within the Joint Control Commission.
The concrete blocks were removed on January 9, following protests staged by residents of the villages situated in the region. They demand taking the post away and transforming the peacekeeping mission into an internationally-mandated civil one. The requests were made after a young man was killed by a Russian military man of the trilateral peacekeeping post.
