The modified composition of the Supreme Security Council was made public. A decree signed by President Igor Dodon on March 5, which was published in the March 9 issue of the Official Gazette, shows that the position “Mihai Balan – director of the Security and Intelligence Service” was excluded, while the formula “Roman Botan – chairman of the Parliament’s commission on national security, defense and public order” is followed by the new position “Gennady Mitriuc– deputy chairman of the Parliament’s commission on national security, defense and public order”, IPN reports.

The decree stipulates that the position “Alexandru Jizdan – Minister of the Interior” is followed by the position “Eugeniu Sturza – Minister of Defense”, while the position “Maxim Lebedinschi – adviser to the President on legal matters and institutional relations, the President’s representative in the relations with the Parliament and Government” is followed by the positions “Pavel Voicu – adviser to the President on special missions” and “Corneliu Popovici – adviser to the President on education, culture and research”.

Another decree signed on March 6 amends the Supreme Security Council’s regulations. Thus, the ex officio members of the Council will be the Speaker of Parliament, Prime Minister, chairman of the Parliament’s commission on national security, defense and public order, minister of defense, minister of the interior, director of the Security and Intelligence Service, prosecutor general and National Bank governor. Also, the Council’s decisions will be taken by a majority of the votes of the Council member, not by at least 2/3 of the votes of members, as earlier.

Earlier, the ex officio members of the Supreme Security Council were: the Prime Minister, minister of defense, minister of foreign affairs, minister of the interior, minister of national security, minister of finance, chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, head of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Department, and secretary of the Supreme Security Council.
