The promoter of choral music in Moldova and one of the greatest choir conductors and composers of the country, Master of Art and knight of the Labor Glory order Victor Creanga passed away at the age of 76.
Victor Creanga was born in Tiraspol. He studied at the Chisinau Institute of Arts “Gavriil Musicescu”. Besides performing directing and artistic work at the National Television Channel, he founded and conducted tens of choirs in Moldova. The last choir he led before retiring was “Sonata” of the Chisinau Theoretical Lyceum “Nicolae Iorga”, IPN reports, quoting the obituary written by the Musical-Choral Association of Moldova.
Victor Creanga composed and arranged dozens of pieces of choral music, some of which are well-known abroad. The works were included in his books “A cappella choirs” and “I go, the Codru remains”.
The master contributed to the renaissance of the choral music in Moldova. Since 1990, he had organized the International Choral Music Festival “Golden Autumn” that involved choirs from Bulgaria, Romania, Latvia, and Moldova. He also organized several editions of the Choral Music Holiday intended for students from Chisinau municipality. He was the main conductor of the International Festival “Leaves in Vineyards Go Rusty” and was the head of the jury of the National Contest “Spring Round Dance”.
The Musical-Choral Association of Moldova wrote that by his energy, charisma and extraordinary devotion, Victor Creanga managed to transmit the motivation and stimulus needed by the young generation of conductors to promote this kind of art as a key element in the education of the masses.
Those who knew the master can bid farewell to him at “Saint Teodora de la Sihla” Church on January 10, from 11.00 until 18.00.
