The Romanian Competition Council will coordinate a new project funded and supported by the European Union, through which it will provide assistance to the competition authority of the Republic of Moldova, according to a press release of the institution. The project partners will support the efficient enforcement of competition and state aid laws and improve the institutional and administrative capacity of the Competition Council of Moldova to act as a competition authority similar to those in the EU, IPN reports.

The consortium led by the Romanian Competition Council, which also includes the competition authorities of Lithuania and Poland, has been selected to implement in the Republic of Moldova the EU Twinning project “Strengthening the institutional capacities of the Competition Council to enforce the competition and state aid policy in line with the EU best practices”.

“For over 15 years, the competition authorities of Romania and Moldova have been engaged in intense bilateral cooperation and have developed strong and lasting professional and personal relationships. We are honored to be entrusted with the implementation of this project, together with strong partners, such as our counterparts from Lithuania and Poland, in the context in which the negotiations for the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union were started,” said the president of the Romanian Competition Council Bogdan Chirițoiu, quoted by agerpres.ro.

The project has a duration of 27 months and is scheduled to start in the first part of October 2024. It is financed with €1.5 million provided by the European Commission. The administrative and financial management of the project will be ensured by the Ministry of European Projects and Investments of Romania.
