Compensations for participants in armed conflicts could be increased by 50%

As of May 1, the compensations of the participants in the armed conflicts could be increased by 50%, according to a bill approved by the Cabinet on Wednesday, May 2. The increase aims at the compensations of the participants in the Second World War, war invalids, participants in the Nistru armed conflicts, in Afghanistan, participants in liquidating consequences of the Chernobyl catastrophe. The compensations for I degree invalids, as war participants, could be increased from 400 to 600 lei, for II degree - from 300 to 450 lei, for III degree – from 250 to 375 lei. The compensation for the former detainees in the concentration camps, for the widows of the heroes of the former Soviet Union will rise from 200 to 300 lei, for the husbands and parents of survivors unable to work - from 100 to 150 lei. According to the Government, about 16,000 persons will benefit from increased compensations. At present, the state spends about 37 mln lei for paying these compensations annually. After the increase, the expenditures will amount to 56 mln lei. The bill is submitted to Parliament for consideration.
