The Green Areas Association of Chisinau warns the business entities that manage land not to allow ambrosia to grow on those lots. The persons who are allergic are encouraged to inform the authorities about places where this plant is growing, IPN reports.

“I want to warn the companies that manage farmland or building lots to take care to prevent this plant from growing there and not to allow that discomfort, allergies and the rest,” said the Association’s acting director Tudor Gîrbu.

Victor Nichituş, PR specialist of the Green Areas Association, noted that a number of measures are being taken to combat ambrosia. At the beginning of spring, the areas on which ambrosia could appear were mowed. The areas where ambrosia grows most often are treated with chemicals. In the treated areas, ambrosia usually does not reappear. But ambrosia pollen is taken away by wind and the plan appears elsewhere.

Allergies caused by ragweed pollen occur late in the season, with pollen levels peaking between mid-August and mid-October.

If the obligation to combat and prevent the spread of weeds is not fulfilled, private individuals are fined up to 1,500 lei, while legal entities up to 6,000 lei.
