Community leaders awarded diplomas of merit

The USAID/IREX Program for Participative Development of Communities from Moldova (CPP) awarded diplomas of merit to 85 community initiative groups that successfully completed projects designed to improve the living and social conditions in their communities. Over 300 people have participated in the events organized to recognize their success. The ceremonies and community projects were supported by CPP – a five-year program aiming at strengthening the social sector in Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to CPP, the implemented 85 projects worth over 1.4 million USD offered the people the possibility of making changes in their settlements. The local initiatives included a wide range of activities: improvement of the education conditions in schools and kindergartens and of the access roads to communities, cleaning and fitting out of public places etc. Some of the community leaders that got diplomas of merit implemented projects to prevent human trafficking and to develop the community leadership and civic engagement capacities of the youth. CPP has supported over 230 community groups and NGOs until present. The program is financed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and managed by the International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX).
