The faction of the Communists Party (PCRM) proposed that the Parliament should set up a working group that would prepare a statement whereby to express Moldova's opposition to the placement of U.S. missile defense systems in Romania. The other factions have not accepted the Communists' initiative, Info-Prim Neo reports. Communist MP Grigore Petrenko said such a statement is needed as Moldova will be in danger if the U.S. anti-rocket shield facilities are based in Romania. The Communists consider the presence of such facilities in Romania will hinder the solving of the Transnistrian dispute. The Communist MPs asked that Foreign Minister Iurie Leanca is invited to the Parliament's sitting to explain why the Moldovan Foreign Ministry did not react to Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Baconski's statements that “Moldova is a Nistru region” and “Romania will not recognize the Moldovan nation.” According to Petrenko, this statements represent insults to Moldova. The members of the ruling Alliance for European Integration supported no initiative submitted by the Communist faction. Speaker Mihai Ghimpu said Iurie Leanca cannot be invited to the sitting because he is on a business trip. The U.S. intends to base anti-rocket shield faculties in Romania from 2015.
