The Communist faction left the July 2 sitting of Parliament, where the Association Agreement with the EU is to be ratified. Earlier, the Communists’ leader Vladimir Voronin said in Parliament that the ratification of this accord represents betrayal and this betrayal started on April 7, 2009, IPN reports.
Vladimir Voronin said the authorities conceded Moldova and betrayed the country’s interests as the Association Agreement was worked out unilaterally by the EU. “This is probably the reason why the text was hidden from society and the opposition. This document is strange to Moldova,” he stated.
He also said that Moldova’s Constitution provides that such documents can be adopted by national referendums. But the accord was neither presented to society nor debated in Parliament.
“The coalition is adopting an accord by which Moldova loses its sovereignty. Supranational bodies will be created to manage the implementation of the agreement. Their decisions are mandatory,” said Vladimir Voronin, underlining that the country will relapse if this accord is ratified.
Communist MP Grigore Petrenco remained in the Parliament’s assembly hall to monitor the voting.
