Communists in opposition in new legislature

The Communists Party (PCRM) has gained 45.1% of the ballot with 98% of the votes counted. If the situation does not change, after the votes of the parties that did not pass the election threshold of 5% are redistributed, the PCRM will have 48 seats in the new legislative body, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) won 16.4% of the vote, the Liberal Party (PL) – 14.4%, the Democratic Party (PDM) – 12.6%, the Moldova Noastra Alliance – 7.9%. Therefore, the PLDM will hold 17 seats of MP, the PL – 15 seats, the PDM - 13 seats, while the AMN - 8 seats. The Democratic parties will jointly have 53 seats. After counting 98% of the ballots cast in the April 5 elections, the Communists Party was show to have 61 seats. But after all the votes were processed, the PCRM lost a seat and could not elect the head of state. The PL, PLDM and AMN held 41 seats together. In the July 29 elections, the PPCD polled 1.9% of the ballot, the PSD – 1.9%, while the Ecologist Party “Green Alliance” – 0.4%. The leaders of the Democratic parties said they are holding talks over the formation of a coalition. Thus, the PCRM could now be in opposition.
