Communist MP Iurie Muntean was named executive secretary of the Communists Party (PCRM), instead of Victor Mandru, at the plenary meeting of the party's Central Committee on March 17, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Vladimir Voronin said Iurie Muntean was promoted because he deserves it. According to him, the post of the party's executive secretary comes second by importance after the post of first secretary. “It is a heavy workload. He will be responsible for the organizational aspect, the primary organizations and the problems faced by the new members,” Voronin said.
The Communist leader said the PCRM needs new people as it gets ready for early legislative elections and they are sure they will take place.
Vladimir Voronin also said that the plenary meeting made changes in the Political Executive Committee of the PCRM. Maria Postoiko, Galina Balmos, Vadim Misin and Iurie Muntean were appointed as members of the Committee, while Svetlana Popa, Victor Mandru and other activists were excluded. “Nobody was excluded or designated for personal reasons. The political executive must become more important,” Voronin said.
The plenary meeting analyzed the work of the local organizations of the PCRM. Vladimir Voronin said they decided to formulate a working program that these organizations will use in the election campaign. He also said that a working group of the Communist parliamentary faction is drafting a bill to modify the constitutional article concerning the election of the head of state and they hope to reach an agreement with the government coalition so as that these modifications are accepted.
Asked if the PCRM agrees that the head of state should be elected directly by the people, Voronin said they do not.
