The Communist Party on Saturday didn't appear for a second time at the roundtable proposed by acting President Marian Lupu. But the Democrat leader says that the doors remain open for the Communists and that the Eurointegration Alliance remains available for dialogue, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“Earlier this week the opposition expressed its position very clearly, advancing conditions that include the dissolution of the Government and Parliament. However, we believe that, considering the extreme complexity of the situation and the responsibility we all have in Parliament, these negotiations should not be made dependent on any condition, because we need to find a solution out of this impasse. We showed availability and openness”, stated Marian Lupu, adding: “The doors for dialogue are always open. But we don't have much time.”
He further stated that the Government would not resign and Parliament would not be dissolved at this point. “We shouldn't play with such things that are driven by narrow party ambitions”, said Lupu. As for the Communists' failure to show up, he stated: “these are either maneuvers to gain more ground, or they are seriously determined to trigger early elections”.
The Alliance is to hold a meeting next week to discuss its next steps. One course of action would be to ask the Constitutional Court to state clearly how much time exactly the legislature has to elect the president.
Marian Lupu invited all the parliamentary parties to discuss ways of overcoming the current political impasse. The Communist Party didn't show up at any of the meetings planned for Friday and Saturday.
