The Party of Communists intend to propose a legislative project to unblock the provision of farm subsidies and give farmers the over 200 million lei that the government failed to allocate in 2009, Info-Prim Neo reports. The announcement was made today, February 23, at a press conference held by the Communist MPs Dumitru Todoroglo and Igor Dodon to criticize the government for the policies pursued in agriculture. The lawmakers expressed their dissatisfaction with the 'overly harsh' treatment of the fiscal policies applied to the farmers, saying that the imposition of VAT on the cost price of the agricultural products is affecting the farmers, bearing in mind that they often have to sell the products below the cost price. The Communists are lamenting the state of the farmers, whose financial troubles have left 140,000 hectares of land unplowed. The webpage of the Ministry of Agriculture informs that the Government decided on February 17 that last year's unpaid subsidies will be made available throughout this year, to the extent allowed by the limits of the budget.
