Communists challenge law annulling unexamined bills

Communist MPs Sergiu Sirbu and Artur Resetnicov challenged at the Constitutional Court the law that annuls the legislative initiatives registered but not considered by Parliament. The law was adopted by the parliamentary majority in May, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Communist legislators consider that by adopting this law the Parliament violated a series of constitutional norms regulating the status of MP as a representative of the people, limited the MP’s right to legislative initiative, affected the MP’s independence and others. The appeal also referred to the law’s retroactive effect, which would affect all the bills registered before the adoption of this law. “The current parliamentary majority continue to restrict the opposition’s rights, in this case the right to legislative initiative, which means to ignore the will of hundreds of thousands of voters”, reads the PCRM press release. The parliamentary majority adopted this law to facilitate the works of the Legislative, arguing that hundreds of unexamined bills piled up over the years.
