If parliamentary elections were held next Sunday, 46 percent of the respondents who were able to formulate a preference would vote for the Party of Communists of Moldova (PCRM), shows the Public Opinion Barometer, presented on Wednesday, April 23. The Moldova Noastra Alliance (AMN) Party was the preference of 11.3 percent. The Democratic Party (PDM) would poll 10.8 percent of the popular vote. Another organization that would make it to the Parliament is the Liberal Party (PL), with 7.8 percent, followed by the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM), with 6.3 percent. The Christian Democratic People’s Party comes next with 4.6 percent, which makes it a potential also-ran for the Parliament’s seats (the electoral threshold is 6 percent). PCRM is still Moldovans’ most favorite party. Asked which of the existing parties or organizations is able to improve the situation in the country, almost 27 percent named PCRM. At the same time, nearly 60 percent of the respondents think the Republic of Moldova is not governed by the will of the people. Ex-PM Vasile Tarlev is thought to be the person with the highest chances of becoming the next head of state, outscoring Speaker Marian Lupu. The Public Opinion Barometer Program is implemented by the Public Policy Institute, with the support of Soros Foundation. The poll for March-April has been conducted by the Center for Analysis and Sociological, Political and Psychological Research “CIVIS” on a sample of 1,435 persons aged 18 and older. The sample is said to be representative for the adult population of the Republic of Moldova, except Transnistria, with a maximal error of 2.6%.
