The authorities of the breakaway region of Moldova put unprecedented pressure on the leader of the Communist Party of Transnistria, Oleg Horjan, against whom criminal proceedings were started, a statement of the party says. He is accused that he put resistance to the Transnistrian militia. On March 11, Horjan was arrested while he was calling the population from his car through a loudspeaker to participate in a demonstration. Being arrested by several persons dressed in civilians, he refused to execute their order as they did not present their IDs, thus he did not put up resistance, the statement says. The authors of the document consider that the party is harassed because of its role and because of the critics brought to the so-called authorities in Tiraspol. These actions, according to the statement, prove once again that there is no rule of law or democracy in Transnistria, only an anti-popular regime which wants only to maintain its power and capital. The criminal proceedings against Horjan are qualified as an intention to “clean” the political stage from inconvenient parties. The party says it will continue to support its leader by all means and will not stop fighting for social equity and protection of the rights of common people in the region.
