Communist leader not upset about Constitutional Court decision

He reiterated the PCRM is concerned that Acting President Mihai Ghimpu may refuse to dissolve Parliament after the September 5 constitutional referendum and will call only presidential elections. “If he does so, we will mount mass protests and demand that the legislative body be dissolved,” the Communist leader said. He also said that if elections are held, the PCRM will have a worthy candidate for the President and a good team to form the Government. Asked who will be the Communists Party’s candidate in the presidential elections if Article 78 is modified by referendum, Vladimir Voronin said that his party has enough candidates who are better than those of the AEI. Today, the Constitutional Court ruled that Vladimir Voronin cannot run for a new term in office as President as he held the post for two consecutive terms.
