Communist Party (PCRM) president Vladimir Voronin held a meeting with a group of United Nations experts, during which the former Moldovan president lamented the “disastrous” sociopolitical situation in the country, laying the blame on the ruling alliance which, he said, refused the dialogue initiated by the PCRM, Info-Prim Neo has learned from a PCRM press release. Vladimir Voronin told the UN experts that after the latest visit to Chisinau by Venice Commission president Gianni Buquicchio on February 25, the PCRM announced its willingness to enter dialogue with the Alliance for European Integration in line with the recommendations of the Venice Commission. “Not only the Alliance leaders failed to follow those recommendations by the Venice Commission, not only they refused any dialogue with the PCRM, but they also chose a path that contradicted all the laws and, what is more important, contradicted the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova”, Vladimir Voronin was quoted as saying. Voronin also told the UN experts about the pact proposed to the Alliance in a bid to overcome the political stalemate. “This initiative of the PCRM, too, was not endorsed by the leaders of the Alliance, so the PCRM had no choice but to submit its own initiative concerning the amendment of Art. 78 to the Constitutional Court proposing a gradual decrease in the number of votes required to elect the head of state”, said Vladimir Voronin. The PCRM president said the leaders of the Alliance delayed the crisis on purpose so as to remain in government as much as possible, staging “political shows” instead of taking care of the problems faced by the country.
