Candidates representing the Communist Party in a number of snap mayoral elections in November won't use the party's insignia, suggested Sergiu Sirbu, the party's lawyer. “We are continuing to struggle for our insignia in court, and we won't give it up. But if they are compelled, our candidates will run in these elections without any insignia”, said Sirbu. Snap elections will be conducted on November 5 in the following 5 villages: Danu, Glodeni district; Cirpesti, Cantemir disrict; Hristici, Soroca district; Albina, Cimislia district; and Morenii Noi, Ungheni district. 16 candidates are running in the elections, including 4 Communists. The Communist Party's insignia, or more exactly the part of it which displays a hammer and a sickle, may not be used under a ban imposed by Parliament which prohibits the symbols of totalitarian communism.
