The Bloc of Communists and Socialists (BCS) dismisses President Maia Sandu’s assertions that the Russian Federation plans to destabilizer the Republic of Moldova with the involvement of diversionists with military training as irresponsible, IPN reports.

“If the SIS has pertinent evidence, this should be presented to the public or such statements can be considered a provocation aimed at engaging Moldova in a military conflict, causing hysteria in society, intimidating the opposition and intensifying the political repression against all those who are dissatisfied inside the country,” the Party of Socialists stated in a press release.

According to it, President Sandu’s assertions run counter to the statements made on February 10 by the U.S. Department of State, which noted that they do not have any indication of a direct military threat by Russia against Moldova or Romania.

“Even if we admit that there are such “subversive groups”, the current legislation enables to counteract them and there is no need to unconstitutionally widen the power of the SIS, which will automatically turn into political police. We do not exclude that the main task of the SIS will be not to ensure national security, but to fight against those who think differently and “to hunt witches”,” runs the press release.

The BCS calls on President Sandu to stop causing hysteria in society and manipulating the public opinion.

In a press briefing on Monday, President Maia Sandu said that actions involving diversionists with military training, disguised in civvies, who would take violent actions, would stage attacks on state institutions and would take people hostage, are being planned. By actions presented as protests by the so-called opposition, they intend to overthrow the government in Chisinau.
