The ANRCETI has fixed the dates for the launch of the number portability service which will enable users to keep their numbers when changing operators. The terms are 1 May 2013 for mobile networks and 31 July 2013 for fixed networks, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The ANRCETI's Board is to approve until December 25 the technical and commercial terms of reference for implementing number portability. Subsequently, mobile operators will sign contracts with the administrator of the centralized database.
The task-force for supervising the implementation of number portability is composed of ANRCETI specialists, representatives of operators and of the centralized database's administrator. By late 2013 the task-force and the ANRCETI will evaluate the results of the project and will make them public.
Number portability is a service that is implemented in more than 50 countries around the world, including in all the EU countries.
Following a call for bids, the ANRCETI has selected the Lithuanian company Mediafon UAB to administrate the centralized database. Particularly for this purpose, the Lithuanian company has incorporated a local subsidiary called NP Base SRL.
