The revenues generated by the communications market last year increased by 3.16% to almost 6.5 billion lei. Most of the incomes were earned by the providers of mobile phone services. The data were made public in a news conference at the national ICT regulator (ANRCETI) on April 15, IPN reports.
The mobile and fixed-line Internet access services market was the most dynamic market in the electronic communications sector for the second year in a row. ANRCETI director Sergiu Sitnic said the upward trend was determined by the greater influence of the global network on all the areas of activity, the increasing demand for new electronic services, and by the intensification of competition between the providers of these services.
The average Internet access speed in Moldova is about 22 Mbps. The country ranks 20th in the world by this indicator, ahead of Ukraine, which is the 28th with 17.7 Mbps, and after Romania, which comes 12th with 28.2 Mbps.
According to the ANRCETI report, the total value of the four electronic communications market - mobile communications, fixed-line line telephone, fixed Internet access and data transmission, and broadcasting programs transmission and retransmission – in 2012 increased compared with 2011.
The specialists of ANRCETI consider that the electronic communications sector in 2013 will grow by 2%.
