The EU Common Visa Application Center in Chisinau will be roomier from summer, after the planned three-month extension works are complete, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The promise was made by the Hungarian Ambassador Mihaly Bayer, who is completing his diplomatic mission in Moldova this week. The ambassador said that from summer, the Center will be larger, will have more offices and more employees whose number will be increased when the construction works are finished. From April, the Center will work according to a special program due to the repair works.
The Hungarian ambassador told a news conference on March 26 that the EU Common Visa Application Center has become an important information center for the Moldovan people owing to the methods of applying for and obtaining visas for the EU countries. The Center’s personnel also provide information about legal methods of going to the European states to work.
At the end of his mission, Mihaly Bayer says that Moldova continues to face a number of problems that it cannot solve especially because of the rapid changes taking place and of the impossibility of controlling the dynamics of the progress and reforms in the country. The official considers that Moldova’s stagnation can be explained by the existence of local traditions that do not fully meet the standards of the European Union. Therefore, Moldova is often criticized for the violations of the human rights, for the way in which the reforms are implemented in the judicial system or in the Interior Ministry. Mihaly Bayer said that soon the EU will turn its attention especially to the 2009 elections, event that could show the level of democratization in Moldova.
The Hungarian ambassador stressed that for the 2009 legislative elections for be free and fair, Moldova should first of all improve the quality of the activities carried out by the Central Election Commission (CEC) during the election campaign and the election day. Hungary has prepared a project of cooperation with Moldova that is aimed at training the CEC personnel for the 2009 elections.
Mihaly Bayer underlined that Hungary will remain Moldova’s trustworthy partner ready to cooperate and to offer assistance in the process of European integration.
