About 26 million lei of the 64 million lei allocated for liquidating the consequences of the 2008 floods disappeared, said Liberal MP Gheorghe Brega, the head of the parliamentary commission that investigated how the financial and material aid was distributed to the victims, Info-Prim Neo reports. The commission of inquiry was set up on February 11, 2010. At the July 9 sitting of the Parliament, Gheorghe Brega presented the commission's final report. The commission established that 26 949 500 lei of the allotted 64 086 935 lei was used to purchase houses, while 11 158 100 lei to restore the affected areas. The rest 25 979 335 lei could not be found. Allegedly, this money was given to the company Inep-Luck for repairing houses. According to the commission of inquiry, large sums of money were laundered by dubious business practices. One year later, representatives of the company went to the affected areas and asked the victims what things they purchased for repairs. They included the data in the local expenditure estimate, but the estimate they submitted to the Ministry of Construction and Territorial Development contained different figures. As to the houses purchased by the Government, in 80% of the cases the flood victims do not live in them.
