Experts are skeptical about the results of the activity of the parliamentary commission for elucidating the situation at Banca de Economii (BEM) and in the banking system in general.  Such conclusions were formulated in the talk show “Place for dialogue” on Radio Moldova station, IPN reports.

The head of the Association “Justice and Uprightness” Ion Dron made reference to other parliamentary commissions empowered to investigate particular cases. “I fear this commission will also cast no light, as it happened in the case of the commissions for elucidating the April 7, 2009 events or the murder committed in the Domneasca Forest. In the last case, the parliamentary commission even mixed things up more. In the case of Banca de Economii, we expect that this commission will not play the role of prosecutors, but will tell us if the legislation is indeed imperfect and allowed this large-scale swindle to be committed or, if the law is good, how it could be broken. They should tell us also who stole that money,” said the jurist.

The head of the Ecologist Movement of Moldova Alecu Renita noted that Moscow could be involved in the theft committed at the BEM. “Even if the former Soviet republics declared their independence, they remain dependent on Russia. A hybrid system was created, like the Russian ‘matryioshka”. It’s enough to shake the mother-doll and all the other dolls from inside will wobble off. It’s known that the most corrupt persons from the ex-Soviet countries, like ex-President of Ukraine Yanukovych, found refuge in Russia. It’s not excluded that those who robbed the BEM will be sheltered and protected by Moscow afterward,” he stated.

Journalist Ion Terguta said the blame for the theft committed at the BEM is borne by everyone. “It’s not for the first time that the people were robbed through the agency of Banca de Economii.  The first time they were robbed when they lost all their savings following the depreciation and withdrawal of the Soviet ruble. This time it happened at home, before our eyes,” he noted.
