The commission is created for the period of the contest and consists of six members – a representative delegated by the Ministry of Justice, two notaries and three law professors selected at a public contest, IPN reports.

The law professors who want to apply must be Doctors of Law with the Private Law specialty, must have taught for at least three years, must not have a criminal record or relatives among notaries up to the fourth degree inclusive, and mustn’t have worked as a notary during the last three years.

The requirements for the applicant public notaries are: irreproachable reputation, lack of disciplinary penalties, seniority of at least five years in a row, professional competence.

The application file is submitted to the Ministry of Justice.

Under the Law on Notarial Activity, the necessary number of notaries is decided annually, usually in the first half of the year, depending on the number of residents and the volume of applications from the public. The notaries take up their duties when they obtain a license and work up to the age of 65, if they are not deprived of license for violations.
