Several thousands people, grandchildren of Soviet participants in the World War II, came to the Eternitate Memorial to celebrate May 9 in Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo reports. Attending the meeting dedicated to the 64th anniversary of the Victory, outgoing president Vladimir Voronin a held a short speech focused on the idea of continuity from the past to the future. The best way to honor the participants in WWII is to fight for peace, for a better life, to pass the live memory to the coming generations. This is what we try to do in Moldova – rebuilding monuments and paying special attention to the war veterans, Vladimir Voronin said. The meeting had a pronounced pro-Communist character, as the participants applauded when the president, the prime-minister and the speaker of the parliament entered the area of the Eternitate Memorial. Meeting speakers have also ensured the Communist leadership of their support. Moldova is among few ex-Soviet states having proclaimed May 9 as a national holiday. Now there are only 6,000 people in Moldova, who participated in the clashes of WWII. About 300 thousand Moldovans died on the front.
