Members of the Supreme Security Council (CSS), convened today by President Maia Sandu, discussed measures to combat manipulation and foreign interference in the electoral process. The head of state emphasized the significant risk posed by disinformation campaigns and external influence attempts, which could undermine citizens' trust in electoral processes, IPN reports.
According to a press release from the Presidency, state institutions presented reports on the steps taken to ensure the conduct of free and fair elections during the meeting.
It was agreed to strengthen mechanisms for monitoring the information space and enhance cooperation between security institutions to prevent and counter such actions.
One of the key topics discussed was the fight against illicit financing of political parties and electoral campaigns.
Additionally, the need to increase transparency regarding funding sources was highlighted by reinforcing controls, tightening financial flow monitoring, and applying sanctions for electoral corruption.
“Another important point was cybersecurity in the context of the elections. The responsible institutions reported on measures implemented to protect IT infrastructure and prevent cyberattacks”, the statement said.
It was agreed to strengthen cooperation between security institutions and experts in the field, including international partners, to ensure a swift and effective response in case of incidents.
President Maia Sandu reaffirmed the state’s commitment to guaranteeing a fair electoral process and ensuring that Moldovans can freely choose their future.
