A number of Nistru war combatants and members of civil society condemned the actions of the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth”, which didn’t allow the young people who promote Bessarabia’s union with Romania to protest in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau on September 13. In a news conference at IPN, they said the leaders of the Platform are suspected of promoting someone else’s interests, possibly of Russia, in a move to cause a hybrid war in Moldova, similar to that in Ukraine.

Anatol Caraman, who heads the Association of the 1992 War Veterans “Tiras-Tighina”, said those who banned the young unionists from hoisting the flag committed an illegality. These also didn’t allow the young people to put up their own tents and prevent organizations they don’t like from taking part in the protests mounted in the central square of Chisinau. Anatol Caraman noted that in one of the protests organized by the Platform, he wanted to appear before the crowd and to tell the names of the most corrupt people in Moldova, but he wasn’t allowed to because there were the names of some of the Platform’s leaders among these.

Combatant Ghenadie Cosovan, former deputy minister of the interior, said the protest movement of the honest people was practically taken over by a group of evil people who have nothing to do with the truth. “Justice cannot be obtained by lie and manipulation. I support the protest, but I call on the people of good faith to avoid being manipulated,” he stated.

Constantin Codreanu, the representative of the National Unity Bloc, said there are actually provokers in the Great National Assembly Square, who want to present the unionists in an unfavorable light. The young unionists went to the Square to say that the union with Romania is the only solution for improving the state of affairs in Moldova. In this connection, the unionists will mount a march from the Great National Assembly Square up to the Company “Teleradio-Moldova” on September 19.

Writer Andrei Strambeanu said he is indignant at the fact that he was banned from speaking to the crowd for the reason that ‘the time is now not opportune to speak about union’. According to him, if the leaders of the Platform started to already show a dictatorial attitude, it’s not known what will happen when they come to power. “If they seize power, they could also steal billions as this land is cursed. It is an artificial state created by Molotov and Ribbentrop. I do not support the administration of the Platform,” he stated.

Blogger Veaceslav Balacci said he supports the unionists and monitors attentively the situation in the central square of Chisinau and will inform the representatives of the EU embassies in Chisinau and the international organizations about the violation of the unionists’ right to free expression by the Platform “Dignity and Truth”.
