A new way of expressing the view of young artists from Moldova and Romania on the works of Polish poet Wislawa Szymborska was reflected in an exhibition of collages mounted at the National Library. The exhibits include works made by eighth graders of “Igor Vieru” Academic High School of Fine Arts, who were guided by teachers and plastic artists Anatolie Gerasimov and Iana Proka, and also works by students of the Bucharest National University of Arts, IPN reports.

The exhibition pays tribute to the laureate of the Nobel Prize in Literature Wislawa Szymborska. Deputy director of the Polish Institute in Bucharest Wojciech Mrozowski said that the writer is known not only for her remarkable poems, but also for her love for collage art. His works weren’t only beautiful, but carried also deep thoughts and symbols. “Inspired by Szymborska’s works and Professor Gerasimov, the students accepted our challenge to create their own collages that not only reflect their artistic abilities, but also express their personal perspective on the world. Each work is a unique interpretation, a manifestation of the individuality and imagination of these young minds,” stated Wojciech Mrozowski.

National Library director general Elena Pintilei said that Professor Anatolie Gerasimov is the one who transmits mastery, the mysteries of youth art not only in the school hall, but also in a library where young artists exhibit their works. The authors of the exhibition created bridges between Moldovan culture and Polish culture. The purpose of libraries, cultural institutions, especially the Polish Institute, is to create cultural bridges and Polish culture in Moldova is warmly welcomed and has always found admirers.

Katarzyna Zalaszewska, project coordinator at the Polish Institute in Bucharest, said that poetry helps us to have an opinion, an idea of what is happening and then we can put our thoughts on paper, paint or make a collage. It is extremely important for an artist to always have something to say.

The exhibition entitled “Some people like poetry” consists of about 20 works that can be admired in block No. 2 of the National Library.
