CoE Secretary General salutes outcome of November 28 election

The Secretary General of the Council of Europe has saluted the vote of the Moldovan citizens on November 28, who voted for European standards and values, for democracy and welfare, the Moldovan Parliament said in a press release. Thorbjørn Jagland congratulated acting President Mihai Ghimpu in a telephone conversation on the result obtained in the recent elections by the political parties of democratic orientation, wishing them success in post-election negotiations on the establishment of a pro-European coalition. “Our choice and that of over 60% of the voters is in favor of the Alliance for European Integration”, stated Liberal Mihai Ghimpu for his part. “We wish to continue the democratic reforms initiated after 29 July 2009 by the (coalition) government, and this will be beneficial for all the Moldovan citizens who want to have an European future. In the November 28 elections, the citizens opted for a democratic, pro-European force. This should be taken into account by the democratic parliamentary parties when forming a governing alliance”, said Mihai Ghimpu. Mihai Ghimpu expressed his gratitude to the constant and consistent support offered by the Council of Europe to Moldova.
